The Art of Cold Process Soap making
At The Artisan Suds, every bar of soap is made using the traditional cold process method — one of the oldest and most authentic techniques of soap making. This method allows us to preserve the natural goodness of oils, butters, and botanicals, creating soaps that are not only gentle but also truly nourishing for the skin.
What is Cold Process Soap making?
Cold process soap making is a method where oils and butters are blended with a natural alkali (sodium hydroxide, also called lye). Through a scientific reaction known as saponification, these ingredients transform into soap and glycerin. The result is a bar that cleanses effectively while also moisturizing and caring for your skin.
The Role of Lye – Clearing the Myth
Many people believe that “lye” remains in the final soap, but that is a common myth. While lye is essential to start the saponification process, none of it remains in the finished bar. During curing, the oils and lye completely react, leaving behind only soap and natural glycerin.
- Glycerin is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin, helping it stay soft, smooth, and hydrated.
- Unlike commercial soaps (which often remove glycerin to use in other products), we keep the natural glycerin intact, making our bars extra gentle.
Why Curing Matters?
After pouring the soap mixture into molds, each batch is carefully cut and left to cure for 4–6 weeks.
- During this time, water slowly evaporates, making the bar harder and longer-lasting.
- The soap becomes milder, ensuring it is gentle even on sensitive skin.
- This patient curing process allows the oils, butters, and botanicals to fully express their nourishing properties.
Handmade in Small Batches
Each bar is expertly handcrafted in small batches, ensuring consistency, quality, and care. Unlike mass-produced commercial soaps made in hours, our soaps are given time and attention at every stage — from blending oils, to pouring, cutting, and finally curing.

Ingredients
At The Artisan Suds, we believe that what touches your skin should be as clean and pure as what goes into your body. Every ingredient we use is carefully chosen for its natural properties, skin benefits, and overall wellness. Our soaps are crafted with cold-pressed oils, rich butters, clays, and botanicals, combined with pure essential oils to create a luxurious bar that truly cares for your skin.
Coconut Oil
Rich in fatty acids, coconut oil is naturally cleansing and helps remove impurities without stripping the skin of its moisture. It supports a soft, supple texture and adds a refreshing feel to the skin.
Shea Butter
A powerhouse of vitamins A, E, and F, shea butter deeply nourishes and hydrates dry skin. Its soothing properties help calm irritation and promote smooth, healthy-looking skin with a velvety touch.
Olive Oil
Gentle and conditioning, olive oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamin E. It helps protect against environmental damage, supports skin repair, and leaves the skin soft, radiant, and naturally moisturized.
Almond Oil
Almond oil is lightweight yet rich in vitamins A, E, and omega fatty acids. It deeply nourishes, improves skin tone, and promotes a natural glow, making it perfect for dull, tired, or sensitive skin.
Castor Oil
Known for its skin-conditioning properties, castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid. It helps maintain moisture, softens dry patches, and gives skin a smooth, healthy texture.
Essential Oils
We use only 100% pure, plant-based essential oils, carefully selected for their skin benefits as well as their natural, uplifting aromas.
- Lemon Essential Oil – Refreshing, brightening, and revitalizing.
- Lemongrass Essential Oil – Clarifying, toning, and energizing.
- Peppermint Essential Oil – Cooling, soothing, and invigorating.
- Tea Tree Essential Oil – Purifying, balancing, and supportive for blemish-prone skin.
- Rose Geranium Essential Oil – Gentle, floral, and calming for sensitive or mature skin.
Natural Additives
Kaolin Clay
A gentle clay that softly cleanses while soothing the skin. It helps absorb excess oil without over-drying, making it suitable even for sensitive or delicate skin types.
French Green Clay
A powerful detoxifying clay, French green clay draws out impurities, unclogs pores, and balances oily or congested skin. It leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated.
Pink Clay
Soft & calming, pink clay is ideal for sensitive skin. It helps restore balance, gently exfoliates, and provides a natural healthy glow while adding a subtle blush hue to the soap.
Chamomile Powder
Known for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties, chamomile soothes irritation and promotes skin comfort. It's perfect for reducing redness and supporting sensitive skin.
Moringa Powder
Packed with antioxidants and vitamins, moringa helps fight free radicals and promotes youthful, nourished skin. It supports natural radiance and protects against environmental stress.
Lemon Peel Powder
Naturally rich in vitamin C, lemon peel brightens dull skin and promotes a clearer complexion. Its gentle exfoliating nature refreshes the skin and helps improve tone.
Turmeric Powder
Famous for its glow-enhancing benefits, turmeric helps even skin tone, reduces the appearance of blemishes, and adds a natural radiance. Its soothing properties support calm, healthy skin.
Natural Fragrance & Color
At The Artisan Suds, we believe scent and color should be as pure as the soap itself. Our bars are gently scented with carefully selected essential oils, not only for their refreshing aromas but also for their botanical skin benefits. This ensures a subtle, soothing fragrance without the use of chemical-based fragrances.
For color, we use mineral-rich clays and plant-based powders that add soft, earthy tones while offering skin-enhancing properties such as detoxifying, soothing, and gentle cleansing.
By choosing essential oils and clays, we keep every bar 100% natural, safe, and suitable for daily use.
